Abstract

The use of invasive devices in intensive care units is essential for treating critically ill patients but increases the risk of complications, such as healthcare-associated infections. This study evaluates the impact of implementing a therapeutic plan on reducing the use of invasive devices and healthcare-associated infection rates in an intensive care unit. The methodology involved collecting data on the rate of use of invasive devices and the incidence density of healthcare-associated infections from January 2022 to June 2024. The therapeutic plan was introduced in October 2022, with daily multidisciplinary rounds focused on the early removal of invasive devices. The results showed a significant decline in the rates of invasive device usage, as well as a reduction in infection rates, culminating in three consecutive months without healthcare-associated infection cases. The conclusion is that the implementation of the therapeutic plan positively impacted the reduction of healthcare-associated infections and improved the quality of care in the intensive care unit.
