The “Therapeutic gardens for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder” (HorTEA) project aims to promote social inclusion and development of children aged 6 to 15 years with a diagnosis or suspicion of autism spectrum disorder, through activities conducted in a therapeutic garden. Based on a qualitative-quantitative approach, the initiative provides social, motor, cognitive, and nutritional stimulation, with the garden serving as a teaching tool for health, environmental, and nutrition education. The methodology includes hands-on activities like plant cultivation and care, conversation circles, and educational actions, facilitated by community health agents. By August 2024, 18 groups of children participated in weekly workshops and bimonthly harvests, focusing on healthy eating and environmental awareness. The project also had a positive impact on family inclusion, particularly in the case of a participant, Gael, who showed significant improvement in behavior and social development.
