This study aimed to analyze the impact of pre-infusion nursing consultation on reducing anxiety and preventing clinical and operational complications in patients undergoing their first chemotherapy session. This is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted in a specialized outpatient clinic providing oncology care. The intervention consisted of a structured nursing consultation performed prior to the first infusion, including guidance on treatment, self-care, warning signs, and a guided visit to the chemotherapy unit. Nineteen patients receiving their first chemotherapy infusion participated and were assessed through a structured questionnaire regarding anxiety levels, perceived safety, and clarity of information provided. Results showed significant reduction in anxiety, increased sense of security, and high acceptance of the strategy among participants. Previous contact with the treatment environment and anticipatory guidance contributed to emotional preparedness and greater confidence in starting treatment. It can be concluded that pre-infusion nursing consultation is an effective, low-cost strategy with potential impact on clinical safety, humanized care, and improvement of the oncology patient experience.
